Main Ne$240 Million in Revenue, but Only a 3.6x Sale? Here’s Why It’s Not as Great as It Sounds…

Sharefile just got sold for $875 million.

Big win, right? Well, not exactly.

They’re pulling in $240 million in revenue, but the sale price is only 3.6x that. Why?

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Growth slowed to less than 20%.

  • The buyer, Progress, was shrinking at -2.3%.

  • Despite stable revenue (100% NRR), the lack of growth lowered the price.

Jason Lemkin’s takeaway? Growth is king.

Efficiency is great, but if you’re not growing, you’re losing out.

The lesson:

Keep pushing for growth, or you could end up settling for way less than you deserve.

  1. CEO of Zoom wants AI clones.

The CEO of Zoom Eric Yuan wants AI clones to attend meetings for you. Like virtually every other company, Zoom now has a big investment in AI — and Eric’s visions for what that AI will do are pretty wild.

"Let’s assume, fast-forward five or six years, that AI is ready. AI probably can help for maybe 90% of the work" - Eric Yuan, CEO of Zoom.

This is a thread from Ciaran, founder of Saturn Media, breaking down how Toby turned a snowboard idea into a billion-dollar SaaS.

He wrote how Toby solved real problems and was always ahead of time to make decisions for his company.

Scott Farquhar has sold a significant portion of his holdings in the company, according to recent filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The transactions, which took place on September 10, involved the sale of Class A Common Stock for a total value of approximately $1,279,462.

There’s no definitive answer, but there are some clues to help inform a business’s long-term viability.

The things AI does well —  report generation, content generation, insight gathering, and more — can be a threat to SaaS platforms that focus on those outputs.

“According to SNS Insider Research, The Software as a Service (SaaS) Market size was recorded at USD 335.21 billion in 2023 and is expected to reach USD 1057.8 billion by 2032, with a growing CAGR of 13.62% over the forecast period of 2024-2032.”
