Amazon-backed AI startup Anthropic just scored a win. A judge ruled their AI training using books was “fair use.”
🚨Breaking News:
A federal judge ruled that Anthropic didn’t break copyright laws by training its AI, Claude, on books. Lawsuit continues partially.
⚡Wire Simplified –
Authors sued Anthropic for “stealing” books to train Claude, their AI model
Judge said training AI this way is “transformative” and legal
Anthropic no longer uses those pirated book files but did retain them
A trial will decide if damages are owed for that earlier use
Big win for the AI industry but the book isn’t closed yet
✔️Straight to the Point:
AI companies can breathe easy for now. Training on books is allowed, but handling of pirated files still faces legal heat.
