Everyone thinks this is an exaggeration but there are so many software engineers, not just at FAANG, who I know personally who literally make ~2 code changes a month, few emails, few meetings, remote work, < 5 hours/ week, for ~$200-300k.
Here are some of those companies:
Oracle, Salesforce, Cisco, Workday, SAP, IBM, VMware, Intuit, Autodesk, Veeva, Box, Citrix, Adobe
Recently did a big CFO survey on software buying intentions for their stack (ERP, planning, spend mgmt, etc.). I came away thinking there are still opportunities here, but outcomes are bounded given the systems of record are entrenched.
Three of the most striking takeaways:
1) We asked CFOs to rate the pain of replacing their primary vendor in various parts of the stack. 68% of CFOs rated ERP as 9 or 10 (most painful). ERP remains the king of software stickiness.
2) Oracle/Netsuite and SAP have largely preserved their on-prem ERP dominance. Though Workday made a dent, there's little sign of further intent to migrate over time. This is one category (of many) where the on-prem vendors survived the cloud shift.
3) CFOs are not satisfied with their existing BI tools (PowerBI/Tableau dominate the market). Intent to shift spend from one vendor to another (new or existing) was higher in BI than any other category.
